The movie version of Valley of the Dolls was released in December, 1967. Starring Barbara Parkins as Anne; Patty Duke as Neely; Sharon Tate as Jennifer, and directed by Mark Robson, Valley was a critical and commercial sensation. The over-the-top costumes were designed by Mailyn Monroe's collaborator, William Travilla, and the Oscar-nominated soundtrack was composed by John Williams (his first, pre Star Wars!)  Tragically, Sharon Tate was killed in the infamous Manson murders two years after the film's release.
